deb has arrived.
<
tcc_staff> hello deb
<
tcc_staff> are you the presenter for this chat session?
<
deb> Hello is anyone online in the Hibisucus room?
<
tcc_staff> no one yet
<
deb> Yes, I had tomorrow on my PDA, realized its tonight!
<
tcc_staff> ah
<
tcc_staff> welcome
<
deb> Thanks.
<
deb> Should I reschedule for another time?
<
tcc_staff> let's wait a bit
<
deb> No problem-the time difference is an adventure.
<
tcc_staff> yes, it is
<
tcc_staff> where are you logging on from?
<
deb> Houston, Texas-Chicago, is also CDT.
<
tcc_staff> is it almost 8:00 pm there?
<
deb> It is 9:33PM in Houston, so I missed the day and the correct tieme,
so I did it up totally.
<
tcc_staff> the GMT is tricky
<
deb> Thanks, how kind to say so, makes me feel less silly.
<
tcc_staff> do you teach online courses?
<
deb> Yes, last semester, this semester, I'm doing hybrid classes and
Tuesday/Thursdays are my teaching days. I just got in from class tonight.
<
deb> Do you use class administration system for your online or hybrid
class support?'
<
tcc_staff> presently, we use WebCT
<
deb> So do we.
<
deb> Are you also using online professional development courses?
<
tcc_staff> what features are you using for your hybrid course
<
tcc_staff> many of the instructors are consulting the publishers
<
tcc_staff> for online course materials
<
deb> In my hybrid course, I have class in an e-classroom that has a
pc for each student who has internet access, full office XP and other speciality
software. For Webct, I really like the bulletin board, assignment drop
box, online testing plus the ability to
<
tcc_staff> but we haven't looked at prepackaged professional development
courses
<
tcc_staff> we have customized those in WebCT
<
deb> I'm not sure I'm using the correct term, let me mention that our
online courses for personal development include courses in how to use powerpoint,
some certfication level courses like networking, computer languages, etc.
<
tcc_staff> ok
<
tcc_staff> we have used the online access for self-paced tutorials
<
tcc_staff> as you described
<
tcc_staff> was Sonia planning to join you
<
deb> Yes, that's what I was trying to describe. These self paced tutorials
seem to fit with lifestyle and learning style needs. We have just begun
offering courses for student use as a supplement to their course work.
They don't get certficates, but the learni
<
tcc_staff> great!
<
deb> How do you handle courses with webct where you have multiple texts?
<
tcc_staff> good question
<
tcc_staff> as of yet I haven't run into that problem
<
tcc_staff> but I hear
<
tcc_staff> many instructors will opt for less texts and more online
resources
<
deb> Yes, I agree with that. We're working on consolidating texts for
clarity and easier course coverage.
<
tcc_staff> I think this is a tough time for folks to get online
<
tcc_staff> I'll be closing this log in a few mintues
<
deb> I think so too, our systems on campus in Houston were a little
slow during the daytime. Given all of the world events, its a time of concern
and attention to news events.
<
tcc_staff> yes, very much so!
<
tcc_staff> it was nice chatting with you
<
deb> I've enjoyed talking with you. You have a good evening.
<
tcc_staff> thank you
<
tcc_staff> you too
<
tcc_staff> enjoy the conference
<
deb> Thankyou.
