Academic

development. These teaching and learning resources are used
in both credit and non-credit learning settings in traditional
classrooms, learning labs, and distance learning courses.

The Internet hasn't been around very long but has already
grabbed the attention of educators worldwide as they look
at the possibilities and opportunities it provides for
student learning. Use of the Internet for teaching and
learning has evolved through three phases whose representative
courses can be categorized in terms of their levels of
interactivity and use of platform technology. This discussion
will focus on these phases of Internet use as addressed
in the paper titled, "The Changing Role of (Internet)
Technology in Teaching and Learning" as well as provide
some suggestions for adopting new Internet technologies
into courses and programs.

using a combination of a computer-mediated software program,

of the course elements that help address those issues
and challenges.

one might consider when choosing "quality" content and
tools for the delivery of instruction, as addressed in
the pap submitted. The session leader will review the
current "best practices" and criteria for accreditation
of colleges as proposed by the regional accrediting agencies
and provide examples of how the structure of content and
the use of good platform tools can address these. Content
that will be used as a basis for discussion will be learning
objects from Academic Systems' Math and English Fundamentals
libraries. Blackboard will be used the basis for the discussion
on platform features and tools.

Currently, Bedford/St. Martin's is working with Walter
Creed of the University of Hawai'i to develop and market
Comment, Web-based software for allowing students to read
and comment upon texts--whether their own papers or class
readings converted to HTML. One of the main pedagogical
uses of Comment--indeed Walter Creed's reason for developing
it in the first place--is as a tool to teach students
in courses with writing how to do peer review. Peer review
is recognized as one of the best tools for helping writers
to become better writers, but it's also one of the hardest
skills to teach. Many instructors struggle to make their
students good and useful peer reviewers... [see
