What Have We Discovered and Where Are We Headed?

Sixth Annual Teaching in the
Community Colleges Online Conference
April 17-19, 2001

(Rescheduled Date: May 1 - 3, 2001)

April 19, Honolulu--Late Tuesday night Governor Ben Cayetano and leaders of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly (faculty union) announced that a contract settlement has been reached.

This conference, which was postponed out of respect for the University of Hawai'i faculty, is rescheduled to start on Tuesday, May 1, 1000 GMT and continue through Thursday, May 3.

The conference team welcomes back University of Hawai'i faculty and hope that everyone can fully and actively participate with all of their colleagues.

We appreciate the patience, understanding and words of encouragement from all of you.

In the meantime, conference papers are available for your review. Other conference web pages will be posted shortly as they become available.

April 16, Honolulu--Currently, University of Hawai'i faculty and public school teachers are on strike. We have postponed this event until the strike is resolved out of respect to our colleagues and the difficult situation that they face.

When a settlement is reached, we will reschedule as quickly as possible for the same three days of the week. We hope for your understanding of this situation and will keep you updated.

In the meantime, conference papers are available for your review. Other conference web pages will be posted shorty as they become available.

Information posted by various parties involved in the statewide strike, including Honolulu daily newspapers may be found at:

Aloha Everyone,

Welcome to our TCC 2001 Pre-conference activities. We invite you to participate, test your equipment, learn the basic skills needed, and make friends for the actual conference in April.

It is very important to know what time zone you are located in. The conference events are keyed to GMT (or UTC). Also in the US, daylight time takes effect on April 1 and your local time may be different by one hour in comparison to GMT.

Jim Shimabukuro, our conference founder, has posted a thoughtful article, "How to Get the Most Out of an Online Conference".

Thank you for registering for this conference. If your friends are interested, please encourage them to register or review our conference background information.

Please return to this site after April 1 to view papers and additional conference information.

Looking forward to "seeing" you all very soon.

Best Regards,
Bert & Karl
